- "Thelma M. Bolthouse, 93) of Spring Lake died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001.
She was born Nov 6, 1908 to Henry and Margaret (Hansma) VanderArk in Ellsworth.
Mrs. Bolthouse graduated from Butterworth School of Nursing in 1929, and moved to Grand Haven to work in the first hospital established here, Hatton Hospital. She met her husband, John P. Bolthouse, at the hosptial when she treated him, and married him on March 2, 1934, in Melville, La. She retired from the hospital in 1937 to raise their family and later worked as a private duty nurse in the 1960's.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spring Lake where she also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Bolthouse had also been a youth group leader, deaconess, and a member of the Mission Aid Socieity. She was a member of the Butterworth Alumni and had been active with the American Red Cross.
