  	On both the 1880 and 1900 Census the birthplace of William's parents is given as Ireland. It is only on his death certificate that his son, John, lists William's parents as having been born in Scotland. John Todd's own granddaughter tells that he and her grandmother often argued as to whether the family came from Ireland or Scotland. Of course, history tells us that Scottish Protestants were brought to Northern Ireland to make that a predominantly Protestant area. So it is possible that Nathaniel Todd and his wife "Miss Montgomery" may have been born in Scotland and then migrated on to Northern Ireland where William John Todd was later born?
