  	According to Darrell Elliott's research, George died impoverished. ---------------------------- The following was received from Joanne Paisley, great-granddaughter of Nimrod Taylor Burns on 4 April 2013. She discusses some papers she found about George Burns. "Since he died intestate my notes were taken from a packet of several pieces of paper.   1.   The first claim filed in court for a debt of $2,000 to James Kinney, George Elliott and Miles Hart was filed on 9 July 1864.  Delinquent taxes for the year 1864-1865 of $16.38 which were claimed 20 Jun 1867.  Estate declared Insolvent.  Could he have used the $2,000 to buy land in Iowa? 2.  "We Sampson Green, Stephen G. Bolon and Jos. P. McHeath appraisers of the estate of George Burns, deceased who being sworn say that we will truly, honestly and impartially appraise all the personal property.."  5th day of Aug 1864  signed by all three.       ( My Nimrod married Annie E. Bolon, daughter of William Bolon.  Stephen G. Bolon was one of William's brothers.) 3.  Set off to Esther E. Burns, widow, and his child "Benora", under the age of 15 years food and $404 plus $100 allowed by law.        Venora was misspelled.   4.  Sale Bill  6th Aug 1864    Ignatius Burns ( Ignatius B. Burns, George's brother)  bought quite a few pieces.  George N. Burns (Enoch's brother) bought quite a few pieces and Esther bought a pair of bedsteads for $2.50.  I suspect that the items the men bought were given to Esther, since they had to do with storing food, feeding and handling a horse. Ignatius also bought 5 chairs.   All of the items including those bought by others totaled $532.82.  Enoch Burns bought $71.31 worth, but only paid the estate $10.83"
