- Anna Elizabeth Evans Armstrong, 94, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Madison, died Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Westminster Terrace in Louisville.
She was born Jan. 23, 1915, in San Marcos, Texas, the daughter of Thompson and Elizabeth Evans. She grew up in Hope, Ark., and attended Bethel College in Kentucky. She moved to Madison in 1953, and remained until moving to Westminster Terrace in 1992. She was a homemaker and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Madison, where she was active in the Women's Circle. She also was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority, Madison Garden Club and Jefferson County Historical Society, and was a volunteer at the Madison-Jefferson County Public Library. She was an avid bridge player. She also was the honorary chairwoman for the Senior Volunteer Program for Louisville and Jefferson County, Ky.
She is survived by two sons, former Louisville Mayor David L. Armstrong and Thompson L. Armstrong; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyman Guy Armstrong Sr.; one son, Dr. Lyman G. Armstrong III; her parents; one sister, Gwendolyn Martindale; and one brother, Thompson Evans Jr.
