- JOYCE MILLER'S MOTHER, ZELMA ROOP, 79, DIES
Mother of Mrs. RIchard K. (Joyce) Miller of Bluffton, Mrs. Zelma I. Roop, 78, of Decatur, died at 7:02 p.m. Monday at Clinic Hospital, where she had been taken some hours earlier from the Meadowvale Care Center. Mrs. Roop, a native of Adams County, had been a resident of the care center several months.
She was born Dec. 30, 1901, a daughter of Isaac and Hattie Watkins Nelson. Her marriage June 3, 1923 was to Ralph E. Roop, whose death occurred Nov. 9, 1976. Mrs. Roop was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and member of the Women of the Moose, Legion Auxiliary, Garden Club and Historical Society at Decatur.
Surviving besides the daughter in Bluffton are one sister, Mrs. Gaylie Bittner of Longmont, Colo., four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Winteregg-Linn-Haggard Funeral Home in Decatur, Rev. C. Albert Numery officiating. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery. Calling will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Preferred are memorials to the Heart Fund.
